Gimlet with Lime Syrup
Ingredients :
1 ¼ oz (38ml) gin
½ oz (15 ml) lime syrup
Lime slice (for garnish)
Preparation :
Put all the ingredients in a shaker.
Fill with ice cream and stir until your fingers get very cold.
Strain through a fine strainer into a chilled cup.
Garnish with a slice of lime.

Behind the Gimlet, just like behind the Gin Tonic and the Grog, hides a history of sailors and medicine. In 1867, Lauchlin Rose produced the world's first bottled juice concentrate: Rose's Lime Cordial. His innovation: preserve the juice by heating it with sugar. At the same time, the English Navy recommends that all sailors have a daily dose of lime to prevent scurvy. Then all you had to do was add a shot of gin, and voila!
